The times they are a changin’- for motor vehicle inspections that is. Starting March 1, 2015, Texas vehicles will no longer be issued an inspection sticker. Yes, you do still have to have your vehicle inspected, but the good news is that you will no longer have to worry about having two stickers with two separate expiration dates. Instead, your inspection will be married to your registration.
How it works
Alright gang, follow along now because this is how “Two Steps, One Sticker” is going to work:
Before registering your vehicle you must pass an inspection no more than 90 days prior to the date your registration expires
After inspection, your records will be updated with the inspection results and you will be issued a paper copy of the vehicle inspection report (VIR) – ALWAYS keep your VIR and be sure to make a copy of it for your records
