Texas residents should expect to see a change in the current minimum liability limits soon. Effective January 1, 2011, the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) is raising the limits for Bodily Liability (BI) and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM). Currently, the minimum limit for Bodily Liability and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist is 25/50/25. However, by January 1, the minimum for will be increased to 30/60/25. How will this affect you? Texas residents should be prepared to see their auto insurance premiums slightly increase. The premium increase is due to the increase in the minimum liability limits required by the state.
