While parts of the country are experiencing extreme flooding, here in Texas, we are experiencing a severe drought. In fact, I looked at the 10-day forecast and the highest chance we have of rain is a measly 10%…. not good. So how do you protect your home during a dry season? By watering your foundation! Why water your foundation? You want to make sure that the clay soil around my concrete slab-on-ground foundation doesn’t dry up and pull away. If it does, it can cause damage to your foundation and that, my friend, it NOT a road you want to go down! So how do you water your foundation? The best way is to use a specially designed foundation watering system such as “soaker hoses.” Soaker hoses run the perimeter of your foundation and evenly distributes water. You can easily purchase them at your local hardware store. If you don’t have soaker hoses, don’t worry. Simply use your garden hose to water your foundation. Make sure you evenly distribute water around your foundation. Make sure to water your foundation year round – not just during the hot, summer months as we can experience dry weather in any season.
