Triglycerides are a type of fat in the bloodstream and fat tissue. Too much of this type of fat can contribute to the hardening and narrowing of your arteries. In our last post
this is called, atherosclerosis,
and this can lead to many severe heart problems.
Triglycerides are measured along with cholesterol as part of a blood test. Normal triglyceride levels are below 150. Levels above 200 are high. When you go in for your check up, which you should be thinking about from our last post, be sure to be educated on your Triglyceride level and steps to take care of it.
These steps might help you control your triglyceride level:
■ Quit smoking.
■ Limit foods and beverages high in sugar.
■ Limit alcohol.
■ Aim for a healthy weight and lose weight if overweight.
■ Be physically active
