With school starting back up, we here at Texan Insurance in Houston thought that now would be a great time to not only show our thanks for the local schools, but to show you the different ways that you can give thanks too. So we went ahead and put together a few ideas of how you can give back to the schools that contribute so much to our community.
Box Tops for Education – There are quite literally hundreds of products that participate in the Box Tops for Education program, from cereal to produce to frozen treats and even apparel. All you have to do is grab a pair of scissors and cut the tops off of participating packages and bring them into your local school. Each box top is worth $0.10 – that adds up! And the best part is, all of the money goes directly to the school.
Give to HISD Foundation – Did you know that the Houston Independent School District is the largest in the state and the seventh largest in the entire nation? With so many students to support, the district could use a little help in return. Every dollar you donate to the HISD Foundation goes to support its five core initiatives:
- Effective Teacher in Every Classroom
- Effective Principal in Every School
- Rigorous Instructional Standards and Supports
- Data-Driven Accountability
- Culture of Trust through Action

Volunteer in Public Schools (VIP) – Have you ever thought about becoming a mentor or a tutor? How about volunteering in a classroom or enrichment program? Now is the time to turn your thoughts into action! With VIPS, you can positively influence our children. All you have to do is register online and then undergo an annual background check. Once you are approved you can work in any HISD school for the year.
