R.V. Dreams, Inadequate Protection Nightmares
Do you have a Motor Home?
It’s your new home but not a house. It’s new wheels but not a car. As such, it has special needs that require the proper insurance protection.
Above all, you want to travel protected, free and without encumbrances.
Personal Insurance
You may think that your auto and homeowner’s insurance might cover your motor home. And they may overlap slightly. For example:
- Items you place in your motor home such as clothing, appliances, tools, etc. might be covered by your homeowner’s policy, but only for about 10% of their value. That’s how much homeowner’s coverage usually extends to off-premise property.
Special Coverages
The fact is, that a motor home is not a car and it’s not a home. It’s different. It’s special. You’ll want to insure it that way. Here are coverages you’ll want to obtain quotes on:
- If you’re a full-time RV’er, you’ll want to consider full-timers coverage. It contains personal liability and additional living expense coverages.
- Attached accessories coverage allows you to insure your awning, TV antenna or even a satellite dish that’s attached to your motor home.
- Motor home personal property coverage will cover everything you own that’s stored inside your motor home.
In fact, the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association suggests you consider liability, comprehensive and collision coverage, emergency living expenses, furnishings, fixtures and appliances, towing and labor costs, fire department service charges and uninsured motorist insurance.
