If it comes to pass that you do catch the flu this season these are the 4 Foods you should steer clear of: Alcohol! It weakens your immune system and dehydrates you. Both can make your cold or flu more miserable and leave you with an even worse morning. Even hot alcoholic drinks may clear things up for a short time, but be careful and don’t overdo it. It’s best to stay away from most alcohol so that your body is optimally hydrated and nothing is hampering your immune system.
Dairy Products! In small portions dairy isn’t that bad for you. They can, however, increase mucus production, and this is one thing we seriously don’t need more of when sick. If ice cream feels good on your throat, maybe pick something like frozen fruit bars instead; packing the soothing feeling and a helping of vitamin C. Juice Drinks! If you enjoy juicing and make your own 100% juices, then have as much as you like!!!
But if you simply buy the bottles in the grocery store, you’d be better off without – and that includes orange juice. Average juices are packed full with extra sugar and sugars can reduce the ability of white blood cells to fight illness. Any benefits you may think you’re getting with the vitamin C are exterminated by the amount of sugar consumed.
Basically AVOID SUGAR! Fried, Fast, and Processed Foods! Stay away from excess fats when ill. Foods high in fat produce inflammation and inflammation produces a less active immune system. It sounds like it’s obvious, right? Even when we are healthy we know this category is bad for us. Just think, with a low defense it must be 10 times worse!
They even contain a slew of immune-suppressing ingrediants (high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, MSG, artificial colors, dyes, and the list goes on). Check out our blog on what you should eat in 4 Immune-Boosting Foods to Fight the Flu.
