The days sure do fly by this time of year! It doesn’t seem too long ago that we were giving you tips on prepping your home for Halloween, and now it is time to move on to Thanksgiving.
It is a wonderful day; a day to stop and reflect on the things you have been most thankful for over the past year. Many of you will count days spent with family to be your greatest blessing, and some of you will be most thankful for the nights spent with a roof over your head, whether that be a home, an apartment, or an RV.
Hosting the holiday can be tricky, especially if you plan on celebrating in your RV. The space constraints alone can be daunting, but we’re here to tell you not to worry about it. We’ve put together a few of our best tips for cooking and hosting Thanksgiving dinner in your RV.
An RV Thanksgiving
What do I do if…
I have a small kitchen
Short on space? Get a head start on your holiday cooking. Anything that keeps can be made a day or two ahead of time, just pop it in the microwave or convection oven to heat up before the main even.
Also, learn to best utilize what space you do have. If your RV comes equipped with an outdoor kitchen or if you have a grill or portable camp stove, use it.
Another option? Tell your guests this Thanksgiving is a BYOSD (bring your own side dish) event. Having a potluck not only cuts down on the amount of time you spend in the kitchen, but it will also help reduce cleanup and time spent doing dishes.
I’m cooking turkey for a crowd
If you’re planning on cooking a 20lb bird and your oven just isn’t quite up to task, you might want to consider investing in an electric turkey roaster. They are relatively inexpensive and pretty easy to use.
For those of you thinking about deep-frying your turkey, please be careful! Each year we seem to hear one story or another of deep-fried disaster. Read your instruction manuals and practice safe cooking techniques.
I need more space
So you’ve invited more people than you have seats for, eh? TV trays can be used to create extra place settings, or if you are in warmer locale, consider eating outside and having a picnic.
If weather is a concern, and you know you are going to be short on space, many RV parks have a clubhouse available for rent if you are willing to fork out the cash.
