Let’s face it: Stuff breaks. Taking stuff to get fixed is expensive. However, there is a quick (sometimes temporary) fix for almost any broken household item. That fix is called. . . DUCT TAPE! Yup, you heard right. Duct tape. And no, it is not something used to tape ducks together. Though it was originally developed to tape air ducts (for air conditioning systems) together, a roll of this sticky grey stuff may have the key to fixing almost anything. It actually comes in many colors now. Making wallets, book covers and other odds and ends out of it has become a fad among teenagers. For the rest of us who are just trying to keep our houses together, here are some common ways you can utilize the power of the duct tape:
- Bundle loose wires (like behind your computer) together to reduce tangles
- Patch blow-up toys and wading pools
- Labels! (On just about anything)
- Weather stripping on doors and windows
- Non-slip precaution on the bottom of the bathtub
- Hold remote control batteries in
- Band-aid, if there are not any available
- Attach holiday light strings to gutters or eaves
- Reinforce backpack straps (it will be good for one more year!)
- Protect your hardwood floors from the legs of furniture by putting a piece on the bottom
- Repair leaking/ripped hoses
- Repair a broken fan belt
- Twist it into a rope
- Secure a broken tail light
- Wrap slippery tool handles
- and much, much more!
Every household family should keep a spare roll of duct tape in the garage, car and kitchen junk drawer. And remember:If you can’t fix it with duct tape, it’s broke!
